FAQ

When will I be able to see a virtual tour of every room?

We have so far completed a scholarly website centering on a virtual reality prototype of one room: the center hall.  There is quite a bit of material to explore both within this room and on the website related to John Ashbery’s lifelong interests in poetry, collecting, houses, and art.  We continue to update the site regularly and look forward to adding a VR tour of each additional room and its objects. Please keep checking back!

I see in the Hudson house timeline that there were tours of the home offered in 1991 and 1997. Is it still possible to visit the house?

While the first-floor of the Hudson house was part of a tour of historic houses during two weekends in 1991 and again in 1997, it is currently a private space only and does not accept visitors.

Are there related artists’ houses nearby?

Yes.  Olana, the Hudson River School painter, Frederic Church’s nineteenth-century estate, is about ten minutes from Hudson and is a New York State Historical site. Church’s teacher, Thomas Cole, also has a house and museum close by in the Catskills.

I might have details about the house or objects that could be useful as you finish the website and vr tour. To whom should I write?

Please send an email to ashberyhouse@yale.edu.  We look forward to hearing from you!
